My first show of the Vertigo tour and it was a good one! I've seen a few people saying it didn't feel like a good one, but I beg to differ. The band looked like they were in good moods, and Bono sang his 'insufferable little' (his words) heart out. "Mysterious Ways" popped up and thus a girl was plucked from the crowd to dance - after that, Bono asked her name and upon hearing it was Alli, he laughed and said, "I think we've met somewhere before." The band was highly amused at this.
Bono's speech about the Pope was particularly moving. The story of the rosary beads-and-fly shades exchange, and the statement that he "didn't always agree with what the Pope stood for, but he stood for *something*," was very spot-on.
A really incredible moment was right before "One," when Bono told the crowd to take out their cell phones, and the entire arena lit up with them, like little stars. He asked for the stage lights to be turned off, and that we "light up the darkness" with our "dangerous little devices." It was beautiful, which is strange to think of cell phones!
Great show, great band. Is it time for the next show yet? :-)
