The U2tours.com WAP access site is designed primarily for phones
that use the UP.Browser and are WML compatible. If your phone
uses a different technology -- but supports WML to some extent
-- you should be able to use our site anyway; however, the
appearance may be somewhat different from the images you
see in this tutorial. Likewise, due to the great variety in how
web-ready phones are developed around the world, your phone
may produce an experience that is somewhat different than
what
is shown below. If your phone is not supported please Email
wireless@u2tours.com with the make and model number of your
phone and your wireless carrier and we will investigate supporting
your phone.
1. Getting Started: Most cellular providers that offer Internet
service also offer a web-based administration utility on their
web site that makes configuration of new sites easy. Others will
have to enter the URL of the site directly into their phone and
then bookmark it (if your service supports that). Using one of
these methods enter
http://www.u2tours.com/wap/
as the URL to access. Note that most phones do not require
the http:// but a few do so we mention it anyway.
2. Main Menu: When you first enter our WAP site you should
see a screen something like this:
You have four options:
1. Search Concerts allows you to search U2's entire history
of concerts, everything available in the U2tours.com database
from 1976 to now.
2. Upcoming Concerts shows you a list of, duh, upcoming concerts.
3. Current Tour lets you browse through all the shows on
the current tour. If U2 is not touring, "current tour" might
equate to their most recent tour or the next tour (if it's
been announced).
4. News lets you browse and read the tour-related news items
on U2tours.com.
Navigate by pressing the menu option number or scrolling up
or down with your navigation keys and pressing the accept button
(usually directly below the
view screen).
2a. Search Concerts: When you enter this area, you will be
able to narrow your search in any of three ways - by City, by
Year, and by Month. (see photos below)
In each case, just type in the search parameters you want to use and move
on to the next step. You can see all concerts in Las Vegas, for
example, by typing "Las
Vegas" at the City screen and leaving the next two screens blank. You can
see all 2001 concerts by typing "2001" at the Year screen and leaving
the other two blank.

Depending on your search parameters, you'll
get an appropriate list of matching concerts. Using our first
example, if you search ro find all concerts U2 has played in
Las Vegas, you'll see a list of matching shows. (photo far left
below) From there, press the appropriate menu option number or
use your navigation keys to select the concert you want. That
will take you to the detail page for this concert. The detail
page (middle and right photos below) includes all details about
the concert from the U2tours.com database, including date, time,
venue, city, opening act, setlist, and comments about the show
(if any).

| 2b. Upcoming Concerts: This option from the main menu displays
a list of all of U2's upcoming concerts. It's the fastest
and easiest way to see what's ahead for U2! When we created
the images for this tutorial, U2 only had two performances
on its calendar. If it were the middle of a tour, you would
see a full screen of upcoming concerts. At this screen, press
the appropriate menu option number or use your navigation
keys to select the concert you want. That will take you to
the detail page for the concert you chose. |
 |
| 2c. Current Tour: This option from the main
menu lists all shows on U2's current tour, both shows they've
already played and shows still to come. You can browse through
this list chronologically, with the oldest shows appearing
first. At this screen, press the appropriate menu option
number or use your navigation keys to select the concert
you want. That will take you to the detail page for the concert
you chose. |
 |
| 2d. News: This option from the main menu lists
all of the tour-related news currently in the U2tours.com
News database. You can browse through this list chronologically,
with the most recent headlines appearing first. At this screen,
press the appropriate menu option number or use your navigation
keys to select the news story you want. That will take you
to the detail page for the headline you chose, where you'll
be able to read the text of that story. Due to the length
of most stories, you'll probably need to click a MORE link
several times to read the full article. |
 |
3. Navigation. Throughout the site we
have tried to use consistent navigation concepts. Generally,
the last item in a menu will be labeled "Menu" and
will take you back to the main menu screen. If more information
is available you will see a link labeled "More" near
the bottom of the screen -- this is particularly relevant to
the news stories. If there is detailed information about an item
you selected you should see a link and/or button labeled "Details".
If you select "Details" you will see one or more screens
of detailed text about the item.
